With this weekend being Thanksgivings I am looking forward to having turkey, stuffing and all the fixings.
I have been spending Thanksgivings for the last twenty years with my friend Dana and her family. The faces around the table have changed, except for Dana, and her parents Ross and Marjorie. This past summer Marjorie passed away suddenly. This Thanksgiving I will feel a little different; but Marjorie’s spirit will live on in Dana, her 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Dana’s children call me Auntie Marsha; I have always felt like a member of their family.
When my daughter was younger, we would go on a family holiday with Dana and her children; the ages of the kids being 2 to 3 years a part. My daughter was able to have vacation with siblings in a way; she is still close to the kids and feels that bond. It is one of best memories that we all still share and talk about.
Since this a long weekend I also spend time visiting with family and friends. With my schedule I have not been able see many of my friends, so this weekend I am going to make a
point of catching up with them.
After Thanksgivings the fun of Halloween is coming with buying costumes for our children (in my case my dogs). Decorating the house and getting ready to see all the smiling faces of children as they come to our door looking for their Halloween treats. At my house I
dress my doggies Gigi and Harper in their costumes to greet the kids as I hand out the candy; it is nut free so that the parents have easier time sorting through their children’s loot.
This is also the prelude into the Christmas season; when we look take a look at home and decide what we want to do; and who is coming home for the holiday. The excitement of Holiday’s brings out the kid in us. Makes us think back to previous celebrations with family
and friends and it always brings a smile to your face.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and enjoy the weekend.
