The beginning of summer is here. Our first long summer weekend is CANADA DAY.
This weekend is when we display our pride in our country with so many events going on. One of the ones I enjoy is the street festival in Osborne Village. When my daughter was little, we
lived in the village and would spend the day walking around the Village. It was so much fun for us and we still talk about it.
Another great event is at the Forks; with such a large area there is so much to see and do. In the evening my mother enjoyed the fireworks and would watch from her balcony every year.
Throughout the summer there is a festival every weekend in town and out of town; we are fortunate that we have all these choices ahead of us. One of them is Rotary Ribfest in August.
I will be volunteer at Rotary Ribfest, as I am now part of Rotary. It will be held August 23 to 25 at The Forks at The Festival Stage, with live local music from Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie and Brandon. The line-up is listed on the website www.ribfestwinnipeg.ca and there is a 50/50 draw which has already under way at www. ribfestwpg5050.ca. All the money raised goes to youth projects. There is also a kids zone on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5:00 pm, with
all kinds of kids activity. Now the food; there are 3 different Canadian Ribbers coming this year - Crabby Rib Shack, Texas Ranger and for the first time Billy’s Bbq. There is voting every year to pick the best one; remember to come out and vote for your favorite. There are also going to be local food trucks offering other food choices for those who like other options. It’s a family friendly day with activities for the kids and music for the grow-ups to enjoy. This year the featured beer is from the local Fort Garry Brewing Company.
